Fastest route, the usual traffic

Kos International Airport “Hippocrates” (KGS) is the fastest and most frequent way to reach Kos by air. The airport lies about 20 km southwest of Kos Town, and direct daily flights operate year-round from Athens (ATH) on Aegean Airlines and Sky Express, with a flight time of roughly 55–65 minutes. In summer months, charter services link major European hubs (e.g. London, Berlin, Munich) directly to Kos several times per week. Once you land, you can hop on the public bus (Line 3) for a 30-minute ride into Kos Town, or take a taxi/car-hire from the arrivals forecourt to reach anywhere on the island in under 45 minutes.

Longer-distance services, The Light traffic

For a more leisurely approach, ferries sail into Kos Town’s harbour from mainland Greece and neighboring isles. Blue Star Ferries offers up to ten weekly overnight crossings from Piraeus (9–14 hours), while high-speed services on Dodekanisos Seaways and SAOS Ferries connect Rhodes ↔ Kos in about 2 hours 10 minutes year-round. Shorter hops run from Kalymnos (30–50 minutes), and in summer there are a handful of fast boats to Bodrum (Turkey) in just half an hour. Traffic is generally light outside peak holiday weeks, but schedules and durations vary by season and vessel type—always reconfirm your sailing time 24–48 hours before departure.
