Steven De Meester

Prof. De Meester is professor at Ghent University, where he founded the Laboratory for Circular Process Engineering (LCPE). Over the past decade, LCPE has grown into a team of around 30 researchers specializing in pre-treatment and downstream processing of heterogeneous waste streams, with particular focus on plastic and organic waste. Prof. De Meester’s research aims to establish a fundamental scientific basis for recycling through physicochemical modelling, phase behavior analysis, and kinetic studies, combined with process-level mass and energy balances and material flow analysis. He coordinates national and European projects on plastic and textile recycling and his research is strongly embedded in collaborations with industry and policy.
